Guest contributor Ben Woods continues his popular “Don’t Argue” column, this week taking us through a key SuperCoach strategy. It would have been a good week for the Briefcase Mongs if I didn’t decide to be a hero by selecting Dane Swan as my captain. As a tiger fan I have nightmares about what he has done
WE look at who could be clogging up your list on the eve of round two
As promised, in the time between writing my last article and the final lockout for SuperCoach my team changed about 1000 times! Most notably:
OUT: Chris Judd- I was worried about his 180-minute pre-season
IN: Dane Swan- SuperCoach Super-Elite
Anyone who follows me on Twitter (@TheAFLGuru) knows that I take SuperCoach pretty darn seriously. The past few months have seen me pour hours, if not days of research into finding a team that could potentially help me snag $50,000 come September
Over the last two weeks Contributing Editor Brent Diamond has put together his team by team list of fantasy footy players that are hidden gems. Now that the series has been published here is a summary for all the clubs with links to each article for more details
WESTERN BULLDOGS Mitch Wallis and Tom Liberatore are at excellent value. Matthew Boyd and Daniel Cross are expensive but will produce. Tory Dickson is your best outsider.
WEST COAST EAGLES You can’t go past the best ruck combination in the league for your rucks. Dean Cox and Nic Naitanui. Both are expensive however. Josh Hill is a good value bet. Has had a couple of down seasons at the Dogs, could turn things around like he did in 2009. Jack Darling is
SYDNEY SWANS Mitch Morton could be a driving force in attack if he gets up and going. Ben McGlynn scores well when on song. But for consistency, go with Dan Hannebery, Rhyce Shaw, Ryan O’Keefe and Adam Goodes, but you will have to pay for them. Matt Spangher is excellent value. 2. Rhyce Shaw –
RICHMOND Brandon Ellis should slot in as a first year player at some point. Good interchange player. Dustin Martin and Brett Deledio should continue on their merry way. Dylan Grimes is building and is good value. 2. Dylan Grimes – Young defender developing into a similar player to brother Jack at Melbourne. Shows composure and initiative
MELBOURNE Mitch Clark is the big arrival over summer. Lots of expectations on him. You’d take a punt on him to deliver up forward. Colin Sylvia needs a big season to remain on the list. Nathan Jones is a good ball-magnet. We also like rookies Dan Nicholson, who had a taste last season, and mature
HAWTHORN Jarrad Boumann would be an interesting choice. May not break in to the team straight away but a handy interchange player. Back-up defender on list. Grant Birchall, Sam Mitchell and Luke Hodge will provide on any given day. Jack Gunston is the other one to really consider. Kicked five goals in an intra-club match.
GOLD COAST Plenty of prospects from the Suns. Maverick Weller is an up and comer. You can even opt for the mature age rookies Kyal Horsley and Andrew McQualter; both are destined to make their mark early. Ablett is no hidden gem, everyone has him as their captain most weeks anyway. 2. Zac Smith –
GEELONG Billie Smedts is the obvious one. He has had a terrific pre-season and ready to step up. Already one of the favourites for the Rising Star. Joel Selwood will thrive with the captaincy. Mitch Duncan is an improving midfielder. He should cement his spot. And we love Orren Stephenson. He will be a regular
FREMANTLE Jayden Pitt is one that has had a good pre-season. Matthew Pavlich will once again score huge points along with Michael Barlow. Tendai Mzungu is excellent value. 1. Hayden Ballantyne – Small forward renowned for his run and bounces. Won Goal of the Year last season. Creative and exciting to watch. 2. Anthony Morabito –
Collingwood We like the look of Fasolo this year. He has heaps of improvement left in him after showing so much last year. Dale Thomas is a fan favourite but also a fantasy footy favourite. I like Josh Thomas as one that will possibly step up this year. A good stocking filler. 1. Alex Fasolo
