Israel Folau cleared to playON Saturday, Israel Folau was reported after separate rough conduct incidents in the second and third quarters of the Giants NAB Cup match against Richmond.

On Monday his case was heard by the AFL Match Review Panel and to the surprise of all but the cynics among us, he was cleared on both charges.

The AFL said “neither incident against Daniel Jackson or Brett Deledio had the force required to justify a report“.

The news would almost certainly be greeyed with relief by the AFL’s Andrew Demetriou as it clears the way for Folau to play in the Giants first ever regular season match and the regular season opener against cross-town rivals the Sydney Swans.

While it’s good news for Folau the Giants will still need to deal with the absence of star recruit Tom Scully who will be unavailable until round 2.

The match will be played at ANZ Stadium, Saturday March 24 at 7.20pm AEST.
