Hunt to debut for Gold Coast in May
Posted by Brent DiamondJul 29. 2009 6:32 pmEXCLUSIVE: GOLD Coast’s newest recruit Karmichael Hunt is expected to make his debut for GC17 in the Victorian Football League in May next season.
The 22-year-old Brisbane Bronco will finish up in the NRL this season after making the decision this week to transfer to the AFL.
GC17 communications manager Greg Price said Hunt is expected to play a “few” games mid-season from May next year.
Hunt has had a decorated career on and off the field for the Broncos.
His decision to walk away from the club and the league has somewhat baffled NRL fans.
GC17′s recruiting manager Scott Clayton was the key to getting Hunt to AFL’s newest club.
“What also impressed me that day was his ability to learn,” Clayton said.
“Clearly marking the ball in rugby league is different and we did some AFL drills that he adapted to so quickly that we all walked away thinking he would become an elite player. The next step was for Karmichael to realise he could be elite.”
Hunt will be a massive drawcard in the VFL next season and is likely to bolster the league even further.
