Dylan Shiel wins AFL Rising Star nomination for Round 10 2012THE GWS Giants have their fourth different AFL Rising Star of the year nominee after Dylan Shiel took out the award for Round 10.

Shiel, 19, joins team mates Jeremy Cameron (nominee for Round 2), Thomas Bugg (Round 5) and Stephen Coniglio (Round 7) as a winner of the weekly award after collecting 21 possessions, five tackles, three clearances and two goals for the Giants in a losing effort against Geelong at Simonds Stadium last Saturday.

GWS Giants coach Kevin Sheedy swas full of praise for Shiel who, he said, had enjoyed a consistent season so far.

After an injury interrupted pre-season, Dylan has shown the great talent we knew he had when we selected him and he has been one of the keys in our midfield along with Callan Ward, Tom Scully, Stephen Conilgio. Toby Greene and Taylor Adams,” Sheedy said.

Shiel was recruited by the Giants out of  the Dandenong Stingrays as a preselection in the 2010 Draft.  That year for Dandenong, playing in the TAC Cup, he averaged 30 disposals, 10 handball receives ,12 groundball and 13 contested possessions per match in the seven games he played.  His contested possessions average was the best in the competition that year and has proven to be a good fit with the style of play that Sheedy has his young Giants squad playing.

The Giants have a bye this week and will play Richmond on the 16th of June.
