Lions coach Michael Voss believes he finally has the makings of a squad that will give the AFL public something to talk about this year.

Carlton:
The Blues are supremely confident star midfielder Chris Judd will be a starter for their AFL round-one clash with Richmond despite his absence from the pre-season cup.

The club’s Round 1 preparations have taken a major hit with midfielder Luke Ball unlikely to be ready.

Travis Varcoe jokes that the only thing he doesn’t have is the certificate, but in every other way, the re-emerging Geelong star could quite easily convince you he is a foot doctor.

Port Adelaide:
According to senior defender and leadership group member Jackson Trengove the team is fitter, leaner and meaner ahead of the 2013 season.

Richmond:
Star forward Jack Riewoldt doesn’t buy into the external hype surrounding the club’s 2013 chances but the Tasmanian has no doubt it is a season which could finally deliver.

St Kilda:
Veteran Saints big man Justin Koschitzke is aware of the challenges ahead of him this year but has put in a pre-season that leaves him well placed to face them, says Leigh Montagna.

Sydney:
Adam Goodes has stepped down as co-captain of Sydney Swans, with Kieren Jack promoted to partner Jarrad McVeigh in the job.

West Coast:
Player-manager Colin Young has predicted a “feeding frenzy” over uncontracted West Coast players at the end of this season after word of their benchmark training standards spread through other clubs.

Western Bulldogs:
Jackson Macrae received some sound advice before making his NAB Cup debut three weeks ago – if he plays to the team structures and has trust in his own abilities then the rest will take care of itself.
