Adelaide:
Emerging AFL midfield stars Patrick Dangerfield and Rory Sloane appear set to sign new contracts with the Adelaide Crows.

Brisbane:
An impressive display against Greater Western Sydney on Sunday has made utility Mitch Golby the Brisbane Lions’ second NAB AFL Rising Star nominee this year.

Carlton:
It is unusual that anyone associated with Carlton would pay heed to the success of Collingwood, yet captain Chris Judd yesterday cited the despised suburban rival as a template on how best to cover Marc Murphy’s long-term absence.

Collingwood:
Nathan Buckley feels the improvement in Steele Sidebottom and Dayne Beams can cover Dane Swan’s loss for Collingwood against Adelaide.

Essendon:
Midfielder Brent Stanton is one of the most improved players in the competition, to the point where he is now rivalling Jobe Watson as the player opposition teams can least afford to let off the leash.

Fremantle:
Coach Ross Lyon has flagged western derby changes for his Dockers after a weekend performance against Hawthorn that he says was at times “embarrasing”.

Geelong:
Coach Chris Scott says the reigning AFL premiers have set themselves to peak at finals time and are steadily approaching their best.

Gold Coast:
Guy McKenna is playing down the importance of Saturday’s visit from Port Adelaide, saying he was still not interested in wins and losses.

Greater Western Sydney:
Young gun Dom Tyson has echoed the excitement and anticipation inside the Giants camp as they head in to their first ever match at the newly re-developed SKODA Stadium on Saturday night.

Hawthorn:
Hawks captain Luke Hodge is now expected to miss up to another four matches with the knee injury he picked up in round six.

Melbourne:
While in past cases the backing of a club’s president has proved to be the death knell for a senior coach, Melbourne coach Mark Neeld has the support of the Demons board to continue reshaping the club.

North Melbourne:
Brent Harvey and Lindsay Thomas have accepted sanctions handed down to them by the AFL’s Match Review Panel.

Port Adelaide:
Port Adelaide’s belief has been rebuilt – but clearly the playing group at Alberton is still learning to deal with expectation.

Richmond:
Nathan Foley believes the Tigers can overcome their recent record of losing close matches to fancied rivals and take it up to Hawthorn this weekend.

St Kilda:
The Saints’ ruck stocks have been further decimated with news Rhys Stanley will miss up to six weeks with a hamstring injury.

Sydney Swans:
John Longmire says trying to hold back a recovering Adam Goodes will be a challenge.

West Coast:
Nic Naitanui has labelled Fremantle giant Aaron Sandilands his toughest opponent but said he will back himself to win every tap he contests in Sunday’s Western Derby.

Western Bulldogs:
Midfielder Adam Cooney will be pushing to return for Friday night’s clash against Geelong after missing the past two rounds through injury.
