GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY

We stuck with some familiar names here because most are untried at the new team. Israel Folau could be hit and miss but it’s exciting to have an NRL gun in your team. Stephen Coniglio and Dom Tyson have come off outstanding seasons. Steve Clifton should be a regular as a rare big body.

1. Phil Davis – Promising key defender crossed from Adelaide. Suffered his second prominent shoulder injury last season but is on track for a big year.

3. Stephen Coniglio – Talented sportsman taken with No.2 pick in most recent draft. Midfielder made his senior debut in WAFL at just 16. One to watch.

4. Israel Folau – NRL convert following in the footsteps of Karmichael Hunt. The experiment continues. If he succeeds, we may see more make the switch.

6. Luke Power – Consistent elite midfielder and Brisbane Lions triple premiership player. Will play a pivotal leadership role and lift the capacity in engine room.

9. Tom Scully – Marquee recruit from Melbourne. Left-footed midfielder who has yet to reach his prime, yet is in a position to as soon as this season. No.1 draft pick in 2009.

23. Sam Reid – Aggressive ex-Western Bulldogs midfielder. Lacked opportunities but played a vital role in Williamstown’s VFL finals series. Callan Ward’s flat-mate.

24. Steve Clifton – Mature age inside midfielder who won the Liston Trophy for VFL B&F in 2010. Is a three-time premiership player at North Ballarat. Ready-made.

28. Liam Sumner – Quick and agile midfielder uses the ball well, breaks the lines and is aggressive at the contest. Taken with pick 10 in most recent draft.

29. Dom Tyson – Clearance king jumped up the draft pecking order after a sensational finish to the season. Wouldn’t surprise if he plays most games this season.

37. Setanta o’hAilpin – The big Irishman was given a second chance after a bumpy ride at Carlton. Can play in defence or up forward, likely to be the latter here.

39. Tim Mohr – Mature age key defender from the Casey Scorpions. Surprisingly fast for his height and has done the job on many AFL-listed key forwards. Under-rated.
