Don’t Argue: Bye Bye Bye!

THE next three rounds of SuperCoach resembles one of my favourite songs from the Backstreet Boys back in the day.
Teams will be shot to pieces and trades will be burned as a result of six teams having a bye each week. It would have been nice if SuperCoach saved us the pain and started the leagues from Round 1 instead of Round 4, which would mean that these bye rounds would also be byes in the SuperCoach fixture. I guess that type of common sense would be too difficult to comprehend.
Ah well, we have to make do with what we are about to face.
Let me start by saying that there is no correct bye strategy that you need to follow, however it greatly depends on where you are positioned on your league ladder or if your going for overall glory (give up if your not inside the top 1000). One thing is for certain; people will make reckless trades over the next three weeks.
Don’t be one of them.
For me, I am sitting top of my league in two of four leagues. This makes the next three weeks a breeze for me.
I thought about bringing in Mitch Robinson and Jamie Elliot this week to save me from some early donuts. I really just don’t need to. Sure, I may still lose the next three league games, though I’m sure that I will still be in the top four with more trades than anyone else in my league.
Clearly I am in better shape than them for the run home to SuperCoach finals.
The only trade I plan to make over the next three weeks is to trade one of my rookies (perhaps Devon Smith or Adam Kennedy) for Matthew Priddis. He sits at a ridiculously cheap price $464,500 and needs to be a part of my team ASAP. Remember that Priddis’ scores have been affected by a sub appearance and a concussion and that he is capable of averaging 114 points like he did last season. I am able to make this trade because I have some spare coin in my bank.
If you need wins, which I’m sure some of you do, here is the path that I would take:
“Identify which round it is that you will be missing the most players and use your trades to bring in more from the same teams”
What did he just say???
It’s a bold strategy but put it this way; we can assume that others will use their trades to reduce the number of zeros they have in each round, therefore spreading the load. This means there team is weak for the entire three rounds. Your team however is only shot for one week.
If you do it right I can just about guarantee that you will win two of your three bye affected matches. Not a bad return hey!
For example, if you have most of your players missing in Round 13 (Rich, Carl, Haw, GC, Port, StK) I suggest your bring in more. Upgrade your GWS or other Round 11 and 12 bye-affected rookies to players like Chris Judd, Trent Cotchin, Dustin Martin, Nick Dal Santo, Sam Fisher, Sam Mitchell, Cyril Rioli, Nick Riewoldt or Grant Birchall. There are legitimate options in every position. This will ensure you have a couple of extra premiums running around for the first two weeks, which should be enough to get you the “W”.
Nevertheless, don’t do anything too ridiculous and remember that a good team after the byes is better than a good team during the byes.
