ESSENDON coach Matthew Knights will well and truly be in the spotlight after round 15 following his teams fifth loss in a row against Melbourne by 19-points on Sunday.
The Bombers have slumped into the bottom five on the ladder and appear to have gone backwards on last year’s promising year that got them into eighth position.
What would be frustrating for Bombers fans is the fact that on-baller Brent Prismall played for Bendigo on the weekend – albeit didn’t have a great game – and sharp-shooter recruit Mark Williams, who is on a three year $1m contract, is also running around for Bendigo.
With the players they had out on the park on Sunday, there was little leadership and grunt when needed. Jobe Watson alone can’t carry the load.
But no doubt, Knights will feel the pressure with massive headlines after this loss. This was a match they expected to win.
With Port’s Mark Williams gone and Matthew Primus taking over his role as care-taker, under the microscope will also be West Coast’s John Worsfold who still can’t get break the drought following a disappointing loss to Adelaide.
Carlton’s Brett Ratten could also be in a similar position to Knights if the Blues can’t notch up a win against the Swans next week.
