FORMER Melbourne midfielder Shane Valenti is confident he can win an opportunity at another AFL club in the lead up to the AFL draft.

Valenti said he was been boxing and working on his endurance over the off-season to help impress prospective AFL clubs.

He was delisted by the Demons at the end of the 2009 season but won the Liston Trophy for the VFL’s best and fairest at Port Melbourne this season.

“I honestly thought I might have been a chance to stay at Melbourne but with the way they went, someone had to make way and that was me. But I just wanted to play the highest level I could,” Valenti said.

“I’ve been trying to work on the fitness side of things and speed and hopefully I can get a foot in the door somewhere and prove that I’m a bit fitter and quicker.”

“I don’t think anyone knows until your name gets read out. I’m not too confident what to expect,” he said.
