FORMER Melbourne high-flyer Russell Robertson was reluctant to admit the club was tanking despite being dropped to the VFL in his final season in the AFL ranks.

With sacked coach Dean Bailey’s departing words at a press conference last week signalling that the club may have tanked, Robertson admits being disappointed at being dropped after booting 30 goals in 10 matches in his final season.

“I did get dropped surprisingly that year…Of course, I was angry, I was very disappointed,” Robertson told Uncle Jimmy’s Pool Room.

His co-host Brodie Holland also believes that every team would have tanked in the system “at some stage” unless they were a constant top four performer.

“I think everyone at some stage, unless you’re playing a top four side for your whole career, has tanked at some stage,” Holland said.
