GWS assistant coach Alan McConnell says the new club must take a punt on several delisted AFL players to act as mature age recruits for the club for next season.

McConnell has declared that the club was willing to look outside the square in state leagues for mature age recruits but believed largely will look to the bigger bodies looking for a second chance in the  AFL.

“The rookie choices will be critical to put some experience around the group and we’re in the process of finalising our views around that at the moment and we’ll obviously have to wait until after the national draft to see what’s left,” McConnell said.

Gold Coast used its rookie choices on former Kangaroo Daniel Harris, Box Hill Hawk Sam Iles and ex Pie Danny Stanley among the Suns original choices.
