GEELONG has scored the first significant VFL recruit with delisted Brisbane Lions midfielder Troy Selwood, the older brother of Geelong best and fairest Joel, joining the club in an administrative role and will take to the field for the Cats VFL team.

It is a similar move to what James Podsiadly made to get his foot in the door at the Cats – albeit Podsiadly was employed in a fitness role.

Selwood is expected to bolster the Cats VFL teams’ midfield in which it struggled this season against the more mature bodies of the competition.

The 26-year-old played 75 matches with the Brisbane Lions over six seasons.
