HAWTHORN’S Luke Hodge had extra reason to celebrate his new role as captain last night after winning the Peter Crimmins Medal for the Hawks best and fairest.

Hodge takes over the helm of Sam Mitchell, who handed over the captaincy to Hodge after a year of conjecture and debate following comments made my former Hawks champ Dermott Brereton questioning whether Mitchell had the respect of his team mates.

Hodge appears to be the spiritual leader of the Hawks after he capped another stellar season off with his second best and fairest.

The 26-year-old was also named captain of the All-Australian team this year.

Peter Crimmins Medal top 10
Luke Hodge – 167
Lance Franklin – 122
Sam Mitchell – 112
Cyril Rioli – 110
Jordan Lewis – 90
Ben Stratton – 87
Shaun Burgoyne – 86
Jarryd Roughead – 85
Brent Guerra – 83
Brent Renouf – 81
