Brownlow update: Swan the early favourite

COLLINGWOOD midfielder Dane Swan is the early favourite to take home the Brownlow Medal despite his lack of votes last season.

Swan was one of the favourites in last year’s count but failed to attract enough votes to compete with the runaway winner Chris Judd or Gary Ablett.

Swan is likely to attract plenty of the ball again, but will command more attention after last year’s performance.

Swan is at $7 and the favourite according to Sportingbet.

Judd is second favourite at $8. Already he has two Brownlows to his name. A third isn’t out of the question because he is in the prime of his career.

St Kilda’s Brendon Goddard, arguably the most in form player in the game to date, is third favourite at $13. Goddard is known for that high flying pack mark in last year’s drawn grand final. He is now arguably the Saints most valuable player, perhaps along with Riewoldt.

Gary Ablett and Joel Selwood, both at $13, round out the early top five. Ablett is primed for a return and debut for Gold Coast in round two. Selwood is believed to have stepped up even further at the Cats after the departure of Ablett,
