Benny’s Back
Posted by Football NationFeb 26. 2009 10:36 amAnticipation is reaching fever pitch in Melbourne ahead of Ben Cousins’ long-awaited comeback match tonight.
Telstra Dome management are expecting a packed house as Richmond supporters flock to see their superstar recruit in action against Collingwood.
Tigers coach Terry Wallace has attempted to douse the buildup surrounding Cousins’ first game since 2007, but the feverish excitement has proved hard to contain.
Wallace warned supporters earlier this week not to expect a vintage Cousins performance, and it is likely the midfielder will spend a considerable amount of time on the bench.
The Tiger faithful were emphatic in their determination to bring Cousins to the club after every other league team ruled him out, and tonight they will be rewarded by seeing him run out in the red and yellow wearing No. 32.
Although the football public is divided over the acceptability of Cousins’ being permitted to return to league football after so many indiscretions at West Coast, tonight is expected to be a celebration for him.
Catch the broadcast of Richmond vs Collingwood in the NAB Cup quarterfinal from 8.30pm on Channel 10.
