FREMANTLE’S gun midfielder Michael Barlow didn’t want to put a timeline on his comeback from a leg injury but cited that it was likely to be between rounds one and five.

He is hopeful of returning to his prolific best and is a Dream Team or Supercoach certainty after a stellar start to his career. He broke his leg midway through the season against Port Adelaide at Subiaco Oval. Before then he was a Brownlow Medal favourite; such was his immediate rise.

The club said this week that they were not putting a timeline on his comeback. He is unlikely to play in any practice matches but is keen on an early season return and began running early in the pre-season with his leg holding up well so far.

The former Werribee VFL player began life as a Docker blitzing opposition midfielders with his ball-magnet qualities and instinctiveness as a potent goalkicker.

He collected 33 disposals on debut, the most possessions gained by a player on debut since Champion Data began collecting statistics in 1992.

He was a Ross Glendinning Medallist and was voted AFLPA’s Best First Year Player award in a scintillating debut season.
