AFL wrap: Are the Cats the Pies biggest threat?

GEELONG’S 19-point win over Hawthorn signalled plenty about the Cats and maybe just as much about what to expect from the Hawks this season.
The Cats turned it on when it counted most through the brilliance of Jimmy Bartel, Joel Selwood and Brad Ottens in the ruck.
Geelong could be the Pies biggest challenger come the end of the season given its September credentials. Perhaps Wayne Carey was right when he suggested that the Cats would only lose about five per cent from last season even with the loss of Gary Ablett.
Fremantle snatched a seven point win over the Western Bulldogs at Patersons Stadium, Collingwood won the Anzac Day clash against Essendon at the MCG – despite a solid challenge from the resurgent Bombers.
Richmond put North Melbourne’s season in disarray with a nine-point win, Carlton escaped an Adelaide fightback to win by six points, Gold Coast won its first match of the season by three points over Port Adelaide and St Kilda won by 13-points over the Brisbane Lions.
