ESSENDON recruit Mark Williams will miss this Friday night’s blockbuster against his former team because of a heel complaint despite being rested for last Sunday’s game for the Bendigo Bombers.

The Bombers confirmed today that Williams will miss possibly another fortnight through injury in a horror start for the former Hawk premiership players’ career at the Bombers. He has battled form and injury problems since he began.

Brent Prismall was also rested last week for Bendigo and remained in the selectors’ minds.

Essendon development coach and Bendigo coach Shannon Grant, who returned to coaching – after a two week club-imposed ban for being jailed for drunkenness – said both were taken out of the line-up for Bendigo to ensure they were refreshed with “a short week leading into next week’s game.”

Williams was the Hawks’ leading goalscorer until Franklin and Roughead arrived at Glenferrie. He then attempted to add a third string to the Hawks forward line but rarely made an impact in his last season at the brown and gold last year.

He spent the majority of the second half of the year injured and playing for Box Hill.
