Shane Mumford cleared of serious injury but will be rested
Posted by Football NationJul 23. 2012 6:53 pmTHE Sydney Swans received some good news today when it learnt that ruckman Shane Mumford was clear of major damage after a scare just before the main break of yesterday’s game against St Kilda.
Mumford hyper-extended his left knee after he landed awkwardly from a ruck contest and while he was able to leave the field on his own there was some concern that he may have sustained some ligament damage.
Initial reports from the incident from club doctor Nathan Gibbs, however, were positive almost immediately with coach John Longmire responding to a question about Mumford by saying “No, other than the fact that Nathan Gibbs said his ligaments are OK.”
Scans today confirmed that Mumford was indeed clear of any ligament damage but it is unlikely that he will play this week. With the Swans next opponent being the Gold Coast Suns, it is a luxury for them that they are unlikely to need him.
