Carl PetersonTHE Western Bulldogs are understood to have shown some interest in recruiting injury-prone Essendon forward Scott Gumbleton.

Gumbleton has increased his currency among clubs over the past month and it is understood his return to Essendon’s line-up has impressed some recruiters.

The Bulldogs require an established key forward to grow their forward line and Gumbleton is in the age range that they are looking for.

He’s 24 but has just played the 25 matches over six seasons because of a growing list of injury worries.

The Bulldogs will be tempted with Gumbleton but have shied away from any move on Collingwood’s Travis Cloke.

They have struggled to formulate winning scores without a true forward this season, relying mainly on Daniel Giansiracusa to kick the bulk of goals.

It was always going to be a test for the team without spearhead Barry Hall, who retired last season.

PROMISING Hawthorn ruckman Luke Lowden is out of contract at the end of the season and remains hopeful of remaining on the list, but he’s another young ruckman that may be in search of a new home after struggling to make a senior AFL debut his time developing.

He was close on several occasions this season after being named as an emergency.

He suffered a fracture in his wrist, similar to the injury sustained to fellow team-mate Max Bailey, and will be sidelined for the remainder of the season.

INDIGENOUS talent Carl Peterson, previously on Hawthorn and Richmond’s list, will be given at least another VFL senior match before the end of the season to showcase his skills for recruiters once more.

He is hoping that an AFL club can pluck him as a mature age recruit.

Richmond and Essendon have shown interest over the past year since being delisted from Hawthorn despite being a high-flyer in 2010.

He has been playing mainly in the reserves for the Northern Blues because Carlton’s VFL team has been littered with Carlton players in the run home to finals.

RICHMOND forward Brad Miller is among those that are in the mix to be culled at the end of the season from Tigerland.

Miller has struggled to gain any consistency in his footy this season and has been left stranded at the Coburg Tigers in recent weeks. It may very well be that he will retire at the end of the season.

The former Demon was recruited as a mature age rookie to Tigerland to help bolster the young team with experience two years ago.

He kicked four goals for Coburg yesterday but was well held when Hawk defender Stephen Gilham went on to him. He’s 29 years old and has played 10 matches for Richmond this season being used as a spare parts player.
