Graham Polak is set to make a miraculous return to AFL football after recovering from being hit by a tram last year.

Polak will run out for Richmond against the Saints in a NAB Challenge match in Shepparton on Friday night.

It will be the former Fremantle player’s first full-on hitout since the tram accident last June, which required him to be placed in an induced coma to protect his brain.

In preparation for his comeback game, Polak has played a little for Coburg (Richmond’s VFL affiliate) and in the Tigers’ intraclub match in February.

Richmond assistant coach David King has said Polak will play about half the match and that there is no expectations on the quality of his performance.

Polak’s appearance will be a real boost for the Richmond playing group, and will put a Richmond match firmly in the public spotlight for the second time in two weeks after Ben Cousins’ debut against Collingwood.
