The Up and Down Year of Port Adelaide
Posted by JBricJun 1. 2010 7:31 amThe Power seems to slowly fading out of Port Adelaide after year another weekend where the boys from Alberton suffered a defeat at the hands of a far from impressive opponent.
Last week it was Melbourne who caused a major upset, winning in the wet in Darwin.
This week is was Richmond who pulled off remarkable upset victory, smashing Port in their own backyard. Once again it was wet.
There are a few concerns coming out of the last fortnight in AFL for the Power.
One is their inability to handle the tag of being favourites.
So far this season, every game they have gone into being favourites, they have struggled.
In games they have been backed to lose, they have prevailed.
It’s been a strange season for the Port Adelaide team, but that has been the case for the past few years.
On paper, they are a quality side. On ability they have proved they can match any team. But, on form they are a yo-yo.
There are now also concerns over whether on not the Power are front-runners who can’t handle the rain.
Some are saying they lack the ‘want’ or endeavor when the conditions are not right.
On the weekend they came up against a success starved Richmond outfit, and they showed they were not able to match the desperation showed by them.
For a side who had their eyes set on the top four a few weeks ago, just making the finals now seems a challenge in a very even year of competition.
The thing about the Power is that they will probably come out on the weekend, win by a hundred points and confuse us even more.
They’re a funny bunch down at Port…
