MYSTERY surrounds Carlton defender Bret Thornton who was missing for the Northern Bullants against Port Melbourne yesterday.

Some insiders believed that he could emerge as a possible inclusion in today’s clash against Geelong at the MCG despite not being named as emergency.

Blues development coach and Bullants coach David Teague said yesterday that “they might be just resting him up, I’m not sure.”

Thornton was dropped – along with Jarrad Waite – after the Blues’ round three loss to Essendon and was seen by coach Brett Ratten as “serviceable” last week.
