Hawks stars return
Posted by Football NationMar 10. 2009 10:34 amHawthorn’s playing group could receive a boost this weekend when several key players are expected to become available from the club’s long injury list.
Captain Sam Mitchell, Cyril Rioli, Jarryd Roughead and Clinton Young are all likely to play against West Coast at Visy Park on Friday.
And in the final match before the premiership season begins, superstar Lance Franklin and premiership star Luke Hodge are good chances to take the field.
Franklin has been battling to overcome a problem thumb, which became infected and later jarred during his recovery from a post-season operation.
Hodge has been recovering from a shoulder operation in December, which was undertaken to repair damaged cartilage.
Onballer Brad Sewell will also line up for the Hawks after missing the game against Adelaide to attend a wedding.
But with a round one premiership rematch against Geelong rapidly approaching, the Hawthorn injury list still includes Xavier Ellis (hip), Rick Ladson (knee), Jordan Lewis (shoulder), Stephen Gilham (knee), Trent Croad (foot), Grant Birchall (hamstring), Chance Bateman (knee) and Campbell Brown (ankle).
