Cyril Rioli to miss Round 2 of NAB Cup

LOST amid all the coverage about Paul Puopolo is the fact that Hawthorn playmaker Cyril Rioli was also injured in the game against the Gold Coast Suns on Saturday night.
It is not known exactly when Rioli injured his ankle but it was enough to keep him out of the line-up for the team’s subsequent game on the night against Brisbane.
“Cyril rolled his ankle in the first game and pulled up a bit sore afterwards,” said Hawthorn’s General Manager – Football Operations, Mark Evans.
“He’ll wear a moonboot for a couple of days to protect the ankle, and we expect he’ll miss a couple of weeks.”
On that basis Rioli will miss at least Round 2 and possible Round 3 of the NAB Cup.
Rioli missed some time last season with a shoulder injury but was back in the lineup on schedule. If he keeps true to that form we can expect to see him ready for the start of the Hawks’ premiership campaign in the blockbuster matchup against Geelong on April 1 at the MCG.
Football Nations Top 50 Players list, posted last week, has Cyril Rioli rated at #31 in the AFL.
