ST KILDA defender James Gwilt could finally make his return from a knee injury against West Coast on Sunday with coach Scott Watters today ruling out Sam Fisher for the clash.

Gwilt was one of the best with 18 disposals for Sandringham in the VFL on Sunday against the Northern Blues in his fourth VFL game since the comeback.

“He’s (Gwilt) steadily improving, that’s something for the selection committee to look at but certainly we’re pleased with how he’s tracking,” Sandy coach Simon McPhee said.

Gwilt’s return will be a massive boon for its defensive half as he provides plenty of rebound.

Meanwhile, Adam Schneider will make his return from injury in the VFL for Sandringham on Sunday.

Watters said that Schneider will be a valuable contributor when he gains full fitness.

“Adam’s a quality player and he’s in our best side without doubt. He is an elite kicker of the football and an extremely smart operator,” Watters said.

“He’ll play this week with Sandringham and as soon as he’s ready to go we’ll find a way to get him back in the side. He’s an elite player that we need in our system.”

The Saints this week cleared Nicholas Winmar of serious injury after going down with an ankle concern for Sandringham last week in the VFL.
