Josh Caddy wins Rising Star nomination for Round 16IT’S been a good week for the beleaguered Gold Coast Suns, winning their first game of the season in thrilling fashion on the weekend over Richmond and now with youngster Josh Caddy getting the nod for the Round 16 NAB AFL Rising Star.

Caddy kicked a goal and had 15 disposals in the win over the Tigers and has been on a tear lately with a three goal effort against Geelong in Round 15 and, earlier, a career best 27 possession performance against the Western Bulldogs in Round 8.

“Josh well and truly deserves his nomination and it is fantastic that he has been recognised,” said Suns coach Guy McKenna.

“After such a difficult year in 2011, Josh has been outstanding this season, he has displayed maturity and leadership that you don’t often see from players in their first or second season of football and has been fulfilling roles on the field well beyond his experience suggests he should be capable of.”

Caddy was selected by the Suns with the seventh pick of the 2010 Draft and had to wait until Round 23 last year to make his debut. Since then, however he has yet to miss a game and has averaged over 18 possessions per game this season.

Here is the highlight reel of Caddy’s Round 16 performance:
