A video pumping up the new GC17 club mascot has emerged on the video sharing site, YouTube.

Gary from the Gold Coast is a  muscled lifesaver sporting blue budgie smugglers, a rainbow swimming cap and a penchant for early morning swims.

Although every club mascot is designed to appeal to kids and is a little bit quirky, Gary seems to have taken the caper in an entirely new direction.

No doubt there was some light hearted fun behind the creation of Gary, who pays out on his apparent nemesis – the mascot from the Brisbane Lions.

‘Gazza’ certainly has some of the trademarks of a Queenslander, but he is perhaps a little more fruity than Gold Coast locals would have expected.
