The Crows are in the midst of a new-look pre-season under rookie coach Brenton Sanderson but fitness boss Stephen Schwerdt has rejected
criticism of the old regime.
Brisbane:
Unlike most of his fellow draftees who have hit the track running since arriving at the Brisbane Lions, Phillip Island product Sam
Docherty has spent most of his first AFL pre-season working diligently on the sidelines.
Carlton:
Captain Chris Judd has resumed training with the Blues’ main group after a minor interruption to his pre-season.
Collingwood:
Premiership big man Nathan Brown is back in full training and targeting an injury-free year, after overcoming two separate knee injuries
in the past two seasons.
Essendon:
Bombers star Michael Hurley will return from a hamstring injury late in the NAB Cup, according to Bombers skipper Jobe Watson.
Fremantle:
Skipper Matthew Pavlich is confident that David Mundy, Nat Fyfe and Anthony Morabito will all play games during the pre-season, with
Fyfe and Mundy likely to join squad training as soon as next week.
Geelong:
Ruckman Dawson Simpson had surgery on Thursday, which will see him miss the Cats’ entire pre-season.
Gold Coast:
Josh Fraser is the oldest player at Gold Coast and out-of-contract at the end of 2012, but the veteran ruckman is not thinking about
retiring yet.
Greater Western Sydney:
Midfielder Tom Scully won the GWS pre-season time trial to allay fears about his knee injury.
Hawthorn:
Jarryd Roughead continues to recover steadily from a ruptured Achilles tendon, but Hawthorn says it will not set a target date for his
return to the playing field.
Melbourne:
The club will now play its first intra-club match at 3pm on Friday, February 17 at Casey Fields.
North Melbourne:
Aaron Edwards is relishing the challenge of taking on greater responsibility around Aegis Park.
Richmond:
A pre-season focus on contested possession, fitness and maturing young bodies has Richmond on track for the 2012 campaign.
Sydney Swans:
Despite finishing in a credible sixth spot last year, Sydney coach John Longmire believes the Swans are still a long way from being a
top-four team.
West Coast:
Ben Cousins has entered his fifth day in a Perth hospital as fears grow about the state of his health following a fall at a
rehabilitation clinic earlier this week.
Western Bulldogs:
In news that will be of great relief to the Western Bulldogs faithful, Adam Cooney will be up and about for the start of next month’s
NAB Cup.
