THE BAD NEWS after last night’s NAB cup competition is that yet another high-profile player is out for the year.

The Magpies won their NAB Cup games against the Western Bulldogs and newcomers the GWS Giants last night but in so doing look to have lost Brent Macaffer for the season.

In his post-game press conference 1st year Magpies coach Nathan Buckley confirmed the bad news when he said “”Unfortunately Brent Macaffer has more than likely done his ACL, which is a poor result for us.”  It’s a poor result for Macaffer as well who, after and injury-shortened season in 2011 and looking like he would be moving on from the club, ultimately re-signed with the Magpies for 2012.

The injury occurred during the Magpies’ seven point win over the Bulldogs and added to the overall disappointment for a Collingwood outfit that almost lost a game to the league’s newest club.

It’s only the first round of a pre-season competition and by no means a sign of things to come, but injury and uninspired performances on the field add up to a poor start for Collingwood.
