Cloke set to stay a Magpie
Posted by Brent DiamondMar 9. 2010 11:46 amCOLLINGWOOD forward Travis Cloke is likely to reject an offer from the Gold Coast and sign with the Magpies for a further three years.
Cloke would be the third player in as many weeks to reject offers with North Melbourne youngster Jack Ziebell signing a deal recently and Richmond’s Trent Cotchin also staying true to the Tigers.
“Don’t believe everything you read,” Cloke Sr told the Herald Sun.
“(Travis) enjoys Melbourne, he’s got properties in Melbourne, his family is in Melbourne, he’s got lots of friends at the club and away from the club.”
“To move interstate – he’s seen that with (brother) Cameron -going to Port Adelaide – is a big change in your life,” Cloke Sr said.
He said he hoped to talk to Walsh this week.
“Travis is not really involved. He knows we are talking,” he said. “Walshy put something to us a week ago and I’m just going through it now.
“As I said, their offer at the moment is a three-year deal. Now do we look at a three-year deal or not? I don’t know.
“Trav has just turned 23 and if we look at a three-year deal we have to make sure the figures are in his favour.
“If we look at two years, well, at the end of two years that’s eight years up to the club, and free agency comes into it, so that’s another consideration.”
