Ellard fights for a return against Dockers

CARLTON midfielder David Ellard could return to the line-up for Friday night’s clash against Fremantle on Patersons Stadium after collecting 65 disposals in the past fortnight at VFL level.
Ellard appears certain to replace Brock McLean, while Andrew Walker is also set to return from injury to face the Dockers on the speedy Perth deck.
Blues development coach Robert Hyde said Ellard has had a tremendous couple of weeks in the VFL where he was best on ground in Saturday’s 100-point win over Bendigo.
“He (Ellard) just worked particularly hard in the midfield and he cleaned up with 38 touches, adding on top of 27 last week so with the big boys getting rolled and maybe with a couple of unfortunate injuries, he’s just put his hand like Brock McLean (last week) to be considered for (this) week’s match,” Hyde said.
McLean struggled once again with the pace of the game against Essendon last Saturday and he was the subject of criticism from Carlton supporters on talkback radio following the loss to the Bombers.
Former Richmond player Andrew Collins is also in the mix for a return.
“There was some real positives signs from Andrew Collins, who you’d reckon would be in the mix now. He presented really well and put himself in the frame to be considered,” he said.
