Matt MacGuire was staring down the end of his AFL career seven months ago after his former club St Kilda delisted him, stranded on 99 games.

The ‘Goose’ had been one of the most important players in the Saints line up for many years, and had it not been for a horrible run of injuries, you would think he would still be there.

Unfortunately the 25 year old could not get back to the form he was had and the Saints gave up on him.

Bt, one club that didn’t was the Brisbane Lions, who picked up the defender in the pre-season draft.

After eight rounds, it’s safe to say his return to top tier football has been a return.

MacGuire has been solid down back, and held his own in a team that has plenty of defensive options.

In the Supercoach side of things, he too has been a bargain buy of the year.

Going into the season he had a low price of $114,000 attached to him, and now he sits on a rosy $340,000.

He has risen in value every week this year, and regularly cracked the 100-point mark.

His weekly average is 82.57, and he is a regular contributor to most teams, in a position that generally scores low.

Nearly 50 per cent of Supercoach teams have him in there, and is rated in the top 150 players in the system.

The good thing is that his price is still pretty low, so it’s not too late to get a bit of the goose in your team.

Hands up those that picked him up at the start ;) Think he is almost done on his climb up the value chain though…
