Hawks, Crows square off at 5-5
Posted by Football NationJun 1. 2009 11:40 amHawthorn’s less than ideal start to 2009 continued yesterday, as the embattled reigning premier went down by 27 points to Adelaide at AAMI Stadium.
The Hawks have plucked a couple of wins in recent weeks but Sunday’s loss leaves them at 5-5, desperately trying to stay in touch with the top 8.
Coach Alistair Clarkson said after the game that he was happy with the performance of his side after the first half, in which the dominant Crows established an 8-goal lead.
He also said he would continue to blood young players, as he did with rated midfielder Liam Shiels yesterday.
This approach of “playing the kids” has emerged partly out of necessity, with the Hawthorn injury list one of the worst in the competition.
Adelaide has now evened its ledger after a stuttered start to the season, also sitting in the middle of the field at 5-5.
Next week the Hawks host Sydney at the MCG and Adelaide play Essendon at the Telstra Dome.
