Ablett may not play against former team

GOLD Coast’s Nathan Ablett has not been guaranteed a game next week against his former team Geelong after another disappointing performance for the Suns yesterday against Sandringham at Labrador.
Gold Coast takes on Geelong at Skilled Stadium in the VFL next Saturday.
Ablett, who played in Geelong’s 2007 premiership team, was only a shade of the player that he was at the Cats and has struggled to rekindle any type of form this season.
He went back to Geelong for a fortnight to handle some personal issues recently.
“No we can’t forget that (he’s a premiership player),” McKenna said.
“But that doesn’t give you the right two years out of football to come back and start playing like a premiership player either. People have tried to do that and struggled. I haven’t been disappointed. At the end of the year, if he’s on our list or not on our list that will be his doing not ours,” he said.
On his performance yesterday, McKenna hinted some disappointment towards his form.
“He certainly didn’t play like he trained on Wednesday,” McKenna said.
“The players putting their hands up now to play key forward, we don’t have a lot of so we have to make sure that we get to see him like we see Joel Tippett down back for us as well.”
“We’ve got four more games to go. We’ll make an assessment at the end of the year,” he said.
Karmichael Hunt was named in the best for Gold Coast.
